Lifelong Learning: What Is It About Time and Human Nature in the Time of Covid?

Thursday, October 21, 2021

As Covid ebbs, we all wonder which of the many changes we’ve made to our lives will stand the test of time. One of them is our relationship with time. But what is time? Dr. McKenna will discuss the nature of time. If you have not registered before, go to http://bit.ly/FPL-Lifelong-Learning-Lectures to join our mailing list and to receive the Zoom link for each lecture.

GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. Larry McKenna, Assistant Professor of Physics and Earth Science, FSU, and Co-Founder of the Center for Climate Change Education As Covid ebbs, we all wonder which of the many changes we’ve made to our lives will stand the test of time. One of them is our relationship with time. In the months we were locked down, protectively gowned, and home-bound by isolation, we experienced time in new ways. But what is time? Dr. McKenna will discuss the nature of time, including a brief history of its measurement and how the most precise clocks in human hands would lose only a fraction of a second over a 13 billion year lifetime of the universe. Then he will widen the discussion to a representative of time in different branches of science, music, art, and literature, and finally to the question that all of us have post-pandemic. If you have not registered before, go to http://bit.ly/FPL-Lifelong-Learning-Lectures to join our mailing list and to receive the Zoom link for each lecture.
