In 2013, Framingham’s commercial and industrial sector included over 2,260 businesses, generated, over 46,000 jobs, with a $3.5 billion payroll and an average annual wage over $74,000. This represents 26% of the total employment in MetroWest and almost 27% of the total MetroWest payroll1. Framingham’s diverse commercial clusters have helped it weather the economic downturn and have strong recovery from the recent recession. In December 2014, Framingham's unemployment rate at 3.8% was among the states lowest and is still significantly below the state (5.3%) and national averages (5.6%)2.
